Man and Machine

Yi Qi Huang, Computer Science

by Jack Wu

'I have lots of free time'. Yi Qi Huang is a final year student in computer science and engineering in the University of New South Wales.

As a high school student, YiQi enjoyed mathematics and physics. He liked how the problems presented in these subjects were often solved in a creative way. It is because of the interest in these subjects that have made YiQi who he is today: a person with refined skills in solving complex problems, aiming for the best solution.

Much of YiQi's time is spent on his thesis project. Apart from class on certain days of the week, YiQi operates on computers and circuit boards. The computers that YiQi can use are not limited either. Whereas the rest of us would have only a few areas on campus which allow us to access, YiQi can do his work (or play) on any of the computers on campus at UNSW. 'As long as I have a computer connected to the Internet', YiQi is able to operate.

Being in the IT (professional computing) field, YiQi understands that there is lots of time freedom, but it is also an industry that requries long hours and more amounts of effort and input than any other 'job'. 'Final year thesis is very close to a real job, where most of the job will be project-based''. YiQi stresses the importance of time management.

On April 12th, YiQi re-edited some coding on one of his programs of which a section came to life.
