Master's in Public Awareness of Science

Liese Coulter

On the 12th of April, I attended a press conference in Sydney, Australia.

As a master’s student at the Centre for the Public Awareness of Science, part of the Australian National University, I got exciting and up to date information about the current state of climate change policy and prospects in Australia.

Although I grew up in Canada, I have lived in Canberra for 11 years. I have had careers as a glass sculptor and sales manager, but began my studies in biology.

Because I recently became deeply concerned about climate change, I decided to go back to university and learn how to be an effective science communicator.

I have always been one of those people who wants to know why and how and used to think that everyone else is as interested as I am.

As we become inundated with tidal waves of information, I realise the importance of getting across the critical messages clearly and simply.

Sometimes it's a long and winding road that takes as where we need to go, but I believe that in the end all of our experiences add to who we are.
