Informing Public Debate

Dr Susannah Eliott
Chief Executive Officer
Australian Science Media Centre

The high point of my April 12th was chairing a roundtable discussion with journalists called "kicking the carbon habit."

The event included well-known, US scientist Stephen Schneider and other climate and policy experts.

My job involves informing public debate about science by providing news reporters with access to good science and experts on issues such as bird flu, the abortion pill (RU486), climate change, and nuclear energy.

What turned me on to science? Looking down a microscope and seeing for the first time a whole 'city' of weird and wonderful single-celled creatures in a drop of pond water.
